The MAPHEUS 15 rocket start in Esrange Space Center, Sweden, marks the successful maiden flight of the GASFEX joint experiment between AER (TUM), the University of Southern Queensland and the Hyperflight Systems, Australia and DLR MORABA. The experiment located in the rocket’s nose cone showed the ability for low-threshold access to spaceflight for universities. The cooperation will be enable in-flight measurement of flow data on the cone for flight experiments on roughness and heat-shield related scientific challenges in the hypersonic regime at realistic flight conditions not achievable in wind tunnels. This will enable a more precise prediciton capability of in-lab experiments as well as numercal predictions of future mission-critical events and problems.
