Following the path of second chance education, Prof. Meier completed an apprenticeship as tool mechanic (2000-2003) prior to his high-school diploma (2004-2005) and his studies in mechanical engineering (2005-2010) at TUM. He conducted his Ph.D. in computational mechanics with Prof. Wall at TUM (2010-2016), focusing on finite element formulations for highly slender beam- and fiber-like structures. Afterwards, he stayed as postdoctoral researcher at the group of Prof. Hart at MIT, developing simulation approaches for additive manufacturing processes (2016-2018). In 2018, Prof. Meier came back to TUM, starting as deputy head of the Institute for Computational Mechanics, and leading the research group of the ERC starting grant project ExcelAM since January 2024. In October 2024, he was appointed to the Professorship of Simulation for Additive Manufacturing at TUM. He received various awards for his work in research and teaching, including the Dr.-Klaus-Körper Prize for the Best PhD Thesis of 2016 in the Fields of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics (International Association of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics, GAMM), the Rudolf Schmidt-Burkhardt Memorial Prize of TU Munich, the Teaching Award of the Bavarian State Government as well as scholarships from, e.g., the German National Academic Foundation, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the International Association of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics (GAMM).
