At this year’s ICONE (International Conference on Nuclear Engineering) in Charlotte (USA), the world-leading nuclear conference, two TD researchers were presented a Best Paper Award each for their contributions Application of High-Speed OH-PLIF Technique for Improvement of Lean Hydrogen-Air Combustion Modeling and Massively Parallelized Simulation of Deflagration-to-Detonation Transition in a Konvoi-Type Pressurized Water Reactor. Both works aim to establish CFD methods to predict large-scale hydrogen explosions like in the Fukushima-Daiichi reactor accident. The state-of-the-art in nuclear safety analysis is supposed to be advanced by this means. The conference’s challenging scientific part was complemented by an interesting social program. The picture shows TD co-workers Peter Katzy, Stefan Wenzel and Josef Hasslberger (from left) finishing off the evening in the NASCAR museum ;-) We would like to thank the German Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) for their financial support.
