Doctoral Workshop at Wuppertal
Bergische Universität Wuppertal, Germany
The third workshop of the doctoral college, organized by Birgit Jacob and her team took place from 28 to 30 March 2023 at Bergische Universität Wuppertal, Germany.
Summary
Despite the difficulties due to the Germany-wide strike of long-distance and regional trains, 18 PhD students (15 of them inscribed in the doctoral college) and 3 advanced Master students came together with 16 senior researchers in Wuppertal.
For the reason of the strike, the scientific program started Tuesday noon. It consisted of a total of 10 doctoral presentations, 2 interactive sessions, 3 talks by senior researchers (Hans Zwart, Markus Clemens and Claudia Totzek) and intense scientific exchange, not only in the coffee breaks. Elise Julien (BU Wuppertal/Science Po Lille) delivered an entertaining and thought-provoking talk on intercultural aspects: «Les Français, les Allemands, les autres ? Des clichés l’interculturalité». The social event led us to underground minigolf, and the city tour through the history of Wuppertal ended with a joint dinner in a beautiful restaurant.
We could support the cross-border travel and accommodation for 10 inscribed PhD students with 200 Euro each out of the DFH-UFA infrastructure funds.
